How your employment status affects your home loan application
One of the key areas lenders look at when you apply for a home loan, is your employment. Most people realise that it’s best to have held a job for a while, before applying. But what you may not know, is that changes to your employment status, even when staying with the same employer, can have a negative impact.
Switching from full time to casual employment
One the most common issues we see at Bee Finance Savvy, is when a client switches from full time, to casual employment, with the same employer. This seemingly minor change can be problematic.
Why? Well, as nonsensical as it may seem, some lenders may see this employment status change as starting a new job! The employee may have the same role. They may have been working for the same employer for years. But still, lenders can categorise this change as a completely new job.
As lenders have varying requirements as to how long home loan applicants have to have held their job, it’s easy to see how this can be a problem. It can be quite a set back, forcing you to wait months before you can apply. But, there is a solution.
Be Savvy – apply right the first time!
If you’ve recently changed your employment status, but have stayed with the same employer, there are solutions available, that don’t involve waiting so many months.
